James A. Kingsbury Appointed CEO
We are pleased to announce the appointment of James A. (Jim) Kingsbury, FACHE, as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Health Alliance and of the future UC Health. His appointment is effective Monday, August 16.
In many ways, this is a welcome home for Jim: he served as the Executive Director and Senior Vice President of University Hospital from 2004 until 2008, at which point he left University Hospital for the United Arab Emirates, where he served as CEO of University Hospital-Dubai and the Interim CEO of the Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center, a Harvard University-affiliated academic medical center also located in Dubai. Jim was primarily responsible for the planning and implementation of the construction, leadership, development, staffing, opening and operations of the University Hospital-Dubai, a 400-bed tertiary teaching and research hospital also affiliated with Harvard University. As Interim CEO of the academic medical center, he headed the University Hospital, the Harvard Medical School Dubai Center, the Dubai Harvard Foundation and the Boston University Institute for Dental Research & Education.
Before serving as chief executive of our University Hospital, Jim served as the chief executive of the Fort Hamilton Hospital from 1998 to 2004, and as the President and CEO of the Fort Hamilton Healthcare Corporation from 1987 to 2004. Jim also served previously as the President and CEO of the Visiting Nurse Association Health Care Group Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri and the President and CEO of the Des Moines General Hospital.
Jim’s vision and experience, as well as his tested and thoughtful leadership, will be absolutely critical in moving the organization forward as it transitions to UC Health. He has remarkable insights and a proven record of leading highly complex and dynamic healthcare organizations, including our own University Hospital. He is the most qualified person to pull the organization together and move it forward.
Jim has a Master of Public Health and Hospital Administration from the University of California, Berkley, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, a past chair of the Ohio Hospital Association, past chair of the Greater Cincinnati Health Council, a member of the American Hospital Association’s Regional 5 Advisory Board and was a Greater Cincinnati Greater Cincinnati Health Care Hero in 2003. Jim also serves on a variety of community boards and is active in a variety of community activities. He has been married to his spouse, Gwen, for 43 years.
Attached is the press release announcing Jim’s appointment. In the release, you will read the following quote from Jim:
We echo Jim’s comments about the great physicians and employees who today are part of the Health Alliance, and who will be critical to the success of UC Health.
Please join us in welcoming Jim back to Cincinnati. We are fully confident in his ability to lead the organization during this time of transition to UC Health. Please also join us in thanking Rick Hinds for his service as Interim-CEO. Rick has done an extraordinary job serving in that capacity. His steady hand and thoughtful leadership have kept us on task and have ensured we continue to move forward. Rick will revert to his former role, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. We will therefore continue to benefit from his deep intellect, keen insights and thoughtful leadership.
Thank you for your continued service in support of our mission and for working so diligently on behalf of our patients.
