Organizers of the Second Annual Walk Ahead for a Brain Tumor Cure wish to thank walkers, runners, volunteers, sponsors and donors for lifting the event past its goals! More than 1,600 people participated in the event, and donations have passed $167,000 and continue to come in. Proceeds benefit research and education at the UC Brain Tumor Center.

“Thank you to everyone who participated and/or donated, as every dollar counts as we battle this disease!” said Gina Weitzel, Senior Director of Development for the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute.

We thank our emcee, 700WLW personality Darrell “Doc” Rodgers, who is also a courageous brain tumor survivor.

We acknowledge The Shemenski Foundation, which was founded in January 2009 by friends of John Shemenski, who lost his battle with a brain cancer in October of 2008. All of the Shemenski Foundation board members, committee chairs, volunteers, and supporters have a common bond, which is that, like all of us, they are simply tired of seeing their family and friends battle cancer.  Since founded, the organization has donated more than $75,000 to cancer research and family support organizations.  We are pleased to have them as our partners for 2011 and beyond.
