The number of youth concussions each year is becoming a silent epidemic, says Dr. Andaluz, Director of Neurotrauma at the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute. The staggering numbers, coupled with the long-term effects on professional athletes as well as returning combat veterans, were cause for new legislation. Dr. Andaluz defines a concussion as an alteration in the way the brain works when subjected to external force of any kind. In an interview with Fox 19 he talks further about symptoms of a concussion and the law outlining the steps a youth athlete must take before returning to play in Ohio.
