Medical Mondays: Common Foot and Ankle Issues

Today we are talking with Dr. Tonya Dixon, a foot and ankle surgeon at UC Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.

Q: What are the most common foot and ankle issues that come up during the winter, and how can listeners prevent these issues?

A: People are coming out of their summer shoes and going into their tight shoes, so their bunions and hammertoes are a big issue. If you have a bunion, you need a wider toe box shoe. If you have a hammertoe, then you need a higher toe box. Finding a comfortable, well-fitting shoe is the biggest thing to prevent discomfort with shoe wear.

The UC Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine program at University of Cincinnati Medical Center was recently ranked as “high performing” by U.S. News & World Report. Listeners can visit for more information or call 513-475-8690 to see a specialist at UC Health, where in science lives hope.
