In honor of National Nurses Week, we are spotlighting some of our compassionate nurses at UC Health who make a powerful impact on our patients each and every day. Today, we highlight Lynnda, a UC Health Psychiatry nurse at Ridgeway.
What inspired you to become a nurse?
Lynnda: My first career was in accounting as a financial analyst. I left that job to stay home and raise my kids. When it was time to go back to work, I wanted a career that I was passionate about and where I could make a difference. I went back to school and became a registered nurse. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I love my job!
Why did you choose to work at UC Health?
Lynnda: UC Health is one of the top hospitals in Cincinnati. I wanted to work with the best!
How has your team prepared to handle a disease outbreak like COVID-19?
Lynnda: Policies and protocols have been created or changed in anticipation of a surge in the outbreak of COVID-19. Our department has worked really hard to implement the changes. The staff is flexible and works together really well. I absolutely have the best team!
What advice would you give to nurses who are graduating right now?
Lynnda: I would encourage new nurses to work a year on a medical-surgical floor, and then pick a specialty that they are passionate about.
What has been your most inspiring experience working as a nurse at UC Health so far?
Lynnda: My patients inspire me daily. There are too many experiences to pick just one.
