In honor of National Nurses Week, we are spotlighting some of our compassionate nurses at UC Health who make a powerful impact on our patients each and every day. Today, we highlight Skyler, a nurse at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
What inspired you to become a nurse?
Skyler: Nursing was first suggested by my high school anatomy teacher. His enthusiasm for teaching inspired my love of health sciences.
Why did you choose to work at UC Health?
Skyler: I chose UC Health because I was met with an opportunity to join a team on an inpatient oncology unit. I was excited to participate in a specialty that offered opportunity to grow.
What advice would you give to nurses who are graduating right now?
Skyler: You are pursuing a profession that is constantly evolving. We have a responsibility to the patient, our community and ourselves—as scholars—to give the best care we are able.
What has been your most inspiring experience working as a nurse at UC Health so far?
Skyler: The heart of the nurses that first took me under their wings. Among many, my preceptor, Markisha, taught me what it meant to be an exemplary nurse. I am forever grateful and inspired by the nurses before me.
