UC Health’s Skilled Nursing Facility Achieves Five-Star Rating

Facility at Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care Among the Best

The skilled nursing facility at UC Health’s Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care has received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

“This is a testament to the hard work and patient-centered focus of the entire skilled nursing team and Daniel Drake Center departments that care for our patients and families,” said Lafe Bauer, vice president and chief administrative officer for Daniel Drake Center.

Skilled nursing facilities help patients further their rehabilitation and recuperation after hospitalization.  They support a patient’s continued recovery through skilled nursing and/or therapy services until they can be safely discharged back to their homes or the community.

The overall star rating is based on a skilled nursing or long-term care facility’s performance in three distinct areas: quality measure performance, staffing ratios and results of health inspection visits.

  • Quality measures assess a skilled nursing facility’s performance in 16 categories, all of which gauge the facility’s quality of care versus all other skilled nursing facilities across the nation. These measures include frequency of hospital readmissions, incidence of patient falls and improvement in resident mobility.
  • Staffing ratios at the Daniel Drake Center’s skilled nursing facility exceed the state and national averages in order to deliver exceptional care to patients. The high ratios also allow the facility to care for patients with significantly greater acuity and complexity that most skilled nursing facilities in the region simply cannot effectively care for.
  • Health inspection measures are based on a skilled nursing facility’s performance in the past three years of health inspection surveys and well as complaint survey visits.
