\"LitsaEvangelia (Litsa) Kranias, PhD<\/a>, Hanna Professor and director of cardiovascular biology in the University of Cincinnati Department of Pharmacology and Cell Biophysics, was honored at the annual meeting of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR) North American Section.<\/p>\n

At the meeting, Kranias received the ISHR Peter Harris Research Achievement Award and presented a talk entitled “Calcium Circuits in the Heart: A Matter of Life or Death.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kranias discussed her work for the past three decades, which has focused on advancing our understanding of the cellular mechanisms that regulate the heart\u2019s pumping action. Her team of researchers has uncovered a fine-tuning regulation of the heart function by specific genes and has shown that alterations in these genes, found in the human population, may lead to sudden death or heart failure.<\/p>\n

The Peter Harris Research Achievement Award recognizes a prominent investigator with a sustained and distinguished record of major scientific achievements in the field of cardiovascular research that have had a major impact on our understanding and\/or treatment of cardiovascular disease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
