Joseph J. Salfity, MD., specializes in vascular surgery and provides comprehensive vascular care for our patients, including healthy lifestyle recommendations, medical treatments, minimally invasive procedures and conventional surgery. His clinical research includes Trans-Carotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR), which is an innovative approach in the treatment of carotid artery disease and stroke prevention.
Dr. Salfity completed medical school, general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at Indiana University and participated in many trials that led to the approval of TCAR. He used his extensive TCAR experience to start a similar TCAR program at WakeMed in Raleigh, North Carolina, and was given the Clinician of Excellence Award for bringing this new procedure.
Upon his arrival to UC Medical Center, Dr. Salfity assisted and served as the proctor for the first TCAR procedure completed at UC Medical Center
Dr. Salfity is excited that the field of vascular surgery is constantly being updated with new developments in technology and novel approaches in treating vascular disease. He believes that utilizing scientific advances to treat and improve conditions that are debilitating will allow patients to improve the quality of their lives and offer them hope.
When Dr. Salfity is not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, photography, trying new restaurants and traveling. His wife, Hai Salfity, MD, whom he met in medical school, is a thoracic surgeon at UC Medical Center. Together, they have traveled internationally to work on establishing health and educational partnerships to provide healthcare to underserved communities.
