Nearly 19 million Americans have diabetes according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Further, the ADA indicates that seven million Americans are undiagnosed and an astounding 79 million are pre-diabetic.

For those who are newly diagnosed, those who are diabetic and need a refresher course, and those who are pre-diabetic, West Chester Hospital offers comprehensive diabetes education classes every month.

The program consists of two 4-hour classes, presented by a certified diabetes nurse educator, a registered dietitian and a pharmacist. A West Chester Hospital endocrinologist typically attends to answer participants’ specific questions about diabetes management.

Classes feature a variety of topics including: meal planning and carbohydrate counting, making smart choices when dining out, achieving better results with medication, a review of newly released medications, and how to start (or improve) an activity program. Other areas of discussion include the psychological and social aspects of living with diabetes as well as how to take control of the disease.

WHEN:

  • Tuesdays, October 7 & 21 – 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Cost for the series is $20 which is refunded upon completion of the program. Self referrals and physician referrals are accepted.
