Interventional cardiology refers specifically to the use of catheters to diagnose and treat structural heart diseases. Catheters are thin, flexible tubes that can maneuver through blood vessels for tests and to repair damaged vessels or other heart structures\u2013often avoiding the need for open heart surgery and allowing patients to have quicker recoveries.<\/p>\n<p>When you have a coronary, valvular or peripheral vascular disease, or other heart problem, it can be helpful to learn more about the heart to understand your diagnosis and treatment options.
