We understand that it is not enough to treat a disease or condition without also considering all aspects of a persons life. We focus on communications, comfort, and convenience.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0an academic health system, we have the capability to offer procedures and tests, from diagnostic evaluations to interventional catheterizations to minimally invasive techniques, as well as traditional open procedures. Open heart surgery has been the common method for treating valvular and structural heart disease; however, there are now procedures available for patients considered too risky for surgery. These can offer the potential benefit of less scarring, less blood loss, less pain and a quicker recovery. One of the latest and most effective procedures is transcatheter aortic valve replacement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Congenital Heart Disease Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When a patient is diagnosed with congenital heart disease this means there is a problem with the structure of the\u00a0heart that has been present since birth. Although congenital heart disease can be diagnosed in adulthood, it is usually found in infancy or childhood.\u00a0As breakthroughs in surgical treatment have enabled most children with complex congenital heart disease to reach adulthood, many of these patients consider transitioning from care in pediatric cardiology to adult cardiology. That&#8217;s why at UC Health we have built an\u00a0adult congenital heart disease program as a joint project with\u00a0Cincinnati Children\u2019s Hospital Medical Center. Together, the Center brings together physicians and clinicians with\u00a0extensive experience in congenital heart imaging, electrophysiology, minimally invasive catheterization and cardiothoracic congenital surgery.
