Prior to surgery, your surgeon may decide that you would benefit from a visit to the UC Health Center for Perioperative Care (CPC). Your surgeon\u2019s office staff will then either make the CPC appointment for you or give you instructions on how to make the appointment yourself.\u00a0 Your surgeon may decide that a visit with the CPC is not necessary prior to surgery based upon the type of surgery you are having and your medical conditions.\u00a0\u00a0 Appointments in the CPC Office usually take place 1-4 weeks prior to your surgery.<\/p>\n

We have two locations.\u00a0 You will be referred to one of these locations depending on where your surgery will ultimately take place.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. If you are having surgery at University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) or Holmes Hospital, then you will be referred to the CPC office within UCMC.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. If you are having surgery at West Chester Hospital (WCH) or West Chester Ambulatory Surgical Center, then you will be referred to the CPC office within WCH, also known as the WCH Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) office.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      About Your Visit<\/h3>\n

      What happens during your scheduled CPC appointment depends on the type of visit you need.
      \nSome patients need only visit with a registered nurse. During your visit the nurse will review your medications and what to expect during your hospital stay. Any lab work that needs to be completed prior to surgery will also be done at this time.
      \nA review of your medical history and a physical exam is required no more than 30 days prior to your scheduled procedure. Therefore, if requested by your surgeon, a CPC nurse practitioner or physician assistant will perform the history and physical during your visit.
      \nIn addition, if requested by you or your surgeon, an anesthesiologist will review your medical history, perform a focused physician exam, explain the anesthetic and pain control options available to you and answer any questions that you may have about anesthesia.
      \nDepending on your procedure and\/or medical history, you may require further tests, such as blood work, an electrocardiogram or a chest X-ray. If required, these tests will be completed during your CPC visit.
      \nUnless it is otherwise specified, it is not necessary to fast prior to your CPC visit.<\/p>\n

      Be sure to bring all the following information to your CPC visit:<\/h3>\n
        \n
      • A list of medications you take on a regular basis, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbals. If you prefer, you may instead bring your original prescription containers to your visit.<\/li>\n
      • A list of your doctors and their phone numbers, in case our clinicians need to contact your primary medical providers.<\/li>\n
      • Current insurance cards. If applicable, include any information that you may have received from the Hamilton County Financial Assistance Program.<\/li>\n
      • Photo identification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
