Heather Masters, MD, is now accepting new patients. She is passionate and honored with the privilege of joining patients through the most intimate and important times of their life. She recognizes that pregnancy is an inspiring, humbling and focused time, but when health problems are present in a mom or baby, it can be incredibly difficult to navigate internal and external expectations. She chose to focus on the subspecialty of maternal-fetal medicine to help women in this journey and to be part of the team that provides extra support to high-risk pregnancies.
In her current research study, she is examining diabetes in pregnancy, specifically oral medications and their safety/efficacy in pregnancy. Despite how common this diagnosis is, a lot of questions remain regarding the optimal treatment plans for diabetes in pregnancy. She identifies finding treatment that is safe, effective and with the least burden for the patient as critical and hopes to find treatment regimens that think of the women holistically.
Dr. Masters completed both her residency and fellowship at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where she currently serves as a clinical instructor.
In 2018, she was awarded with a National Faculty Award from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for excellence in teaching residents. She takes pride in this award, as being part of academic medicine, she not only has had the privilege to serve her personal patients, but also serve a group of resident physicians as a clinical instructor. Through this, she can influence and impact the care of future generations of physicians.
Outside of the health system, Dr. Masters is a mother of three (all delivered at UC Medical Center) and enjoys going on hiking adventures. Most recently, she completed the top-down Virgin River Narrows hike, a 16-mile hike where the river was the route.
