Gong dedication April 17 for patients completing breast cancer treatment

CINCINNATI (April 9, 2019) — Completing treatment for cancer is worthy of celebration and commemoration, which is why care teams at the University of Cincinnati (UC) Cancer Institute’s Breast Cancer Center are installing a gong on the third floor of the UC Health Barrett Cancer Center, 234 Goodman St.
The official celebration for the installation of the gong will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, in the Barrett Center’s Marlene Harris Lobby on the third floor, with patients, survivors, physicians and staff present. Light refreshments will be served.
“Patients completing the chemotherapy journey should be celebrated, and we want a visible and audible way to mark that,” says Elyse Lower, MD, professor of medicine at the UC College of Medicine, director of the Breast Cancer Center and a UC Health oncologist. “We’re excited to be able to honor our patients who are finalizing treatment for breast cancer in this way.”
The gong will be called the Kendra Scott Gong in honor of a local retailer of the jewelry company which donates to the breast cancer program and allows patients completing treatment to pick out a piece of jewelry at their last appointment.
