UC Health’s Daniel Drake Center Opens Long-Term Acute Care Unit at The Christ Hospital

The Christ Hospital Health Network Selects UC Health’s Daniel Drake Center for Specialized Services

CINCINNATI, OH—December 2, 2013—Today The Christ Hospital Health Network and UC Health announced they will collaborate to provide specialized services on a newly opened 30-bed, long-term acute care unit at The Christ Hospital’s Mount Auburn campus. This new unit will focus on providing the most appropriate level of care and optimal experiences to patients with long-term, medically complex needs.

The Christ Hospital is recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report and as the region’s Most Preferred Hospital (National Research Corporation). The Christ Hospital Health Network selected UC Health’s Daniel Drake Center to provide specialized care on the long-term acute care unit based on its leadership in medically complex and pulmonary/ventilator weaning care. The Daniel Drake Center’s professionals are specially trained in long-term acute care with a focus on patients needing a longer recovery time — 30 days on average.

“As we look for innovative ways to deliver exceptional outcomes, affordable care, and the finest experiences, collaborations like these do so. The Daniel Drake Center is a well-respected name in long-term care, and our physicians and staff look forward to working with UC Health to ensure the very best care for our patients,” said Mike Keating, President and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network.

“We are very excited to serve The Christ Hospital’s patients who need longer-term, post-acute care in a traditional hospital setting. Our expertise in post-acute care aligns well with the clinical expertise of The Christ Hospital’s physicians, nurses and other staff members. I deeply appreciate the trust that the organization and its physicians are putting in us as a long-term care provider,” said Rick Lofgren, MD, President & CEO of UC Health.

Sunil Dama, MD, pulmonologist, will serve as Medical Director for the new long-term acute care unit. Care will be provided by a multidisciplinary team of physician hospitalists and specialists (including infectious disease, wound care, pulmonary disease, nephrology, urology, ENT, psychiatry, cardiology and other fields); nurse specialists (including critical care, medical surgical or certified wound care nurses); respiratory therapists; physical and occupational therapists; speech-language pathologists; and registered dietitians. The team works rigorously to return patients with medically complex illness or injury to the highest level of functioning possible.
