Looking for Volunteers at Drake Center

Do you want to make a difference? Do you like people? Drake Center in Hartwell, a long-term acute care hospital and member of UC Health, is in need of Hospitality Volunteers to work four-hour shifts to welcome visitors.

In addition to Hospitality Volunteers, Drake Center volunteers help in the following ways:

  • Gift Shop–The Drake Center gift shop is wholly staffed by volunteers. Proceeds from the gift shop are used to fund program to improve. This program aids discharged patients who have major equipment or medication needs.
  • Patient Visiting–Volunteers play cards, read and accompany patients around the hospital.
  • Pet Therapy–Upon completion of training, volunteers and their pets visit patients, providing an interaction that is fun and therapeutic.
  • Pastoral Care–Church leaders hold weekly services for patients at Drake. Church members volunteer by holding bible studies.  Eucharistic ministers give communion to patients.
  • Clerical Work–Volunteers often help in other departments such as admissions and education, pulling medical records, filing, preparing packets, etc.
  • Special Events Escort– Transport patients to and from bingo, parties and/or entertainment events at Drake.
