New Diabetes Management Program Offered at West Chester Hospital

West Chester, OH—March 12, 2013—According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 13.5 million adults are living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes in the U.S. In addition, diabetes is currently the seventh leading cause of death in Americans. For those who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes or those who have diabetes and are in need of a refresher course, West Chester Hospital is offering a new diabetes management program.

West Chester Hospital is pleased to offer a three-part comprehensive series of classes to help people manage their diabetes. Offered on a monthly basis with alternating day and evening class times, the series will be presented by a diabetes nurse educator, a certified wound care nurse, registered dietitians and a pharmacist.

A variety of topics will be discussed including: basic carbohydrate counting, making smart choices when dining out, how to achieve better results with medication, a review of newly released medications, and how to start (or improve) an activity program. Other areas of discussion will include the psychological and social aspects of living with diabetes as well as how to best take control of the disease.

West Chester Hospital will also host a diabetes support group for the community on the first Tuesday of each month. The first support group session will take place on Tuesday, April 2, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the second floor mezzanine conference room. The support group will serve as a forum for sharing and discussion and will feature guest speakers as well.

WHEN: Thursdays, April 11, 18 & 25 – 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Thursdays, May 16, 23 & 30 – 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
