UC Health and Aetna Agree to Deal

CINCINNATI – August 3, 2012 – UC Health and Aetna have announced an agreement extending through July 31, 2015, which provides Aetna members with full in-network health benefits throughout UC Health’s extensive network of physicians and hospitals.

With this deal, UC Health now participates in both Aetna’s commercial plans and its Medicare Advantage plans. Collectively, 165,000 patients enrolled in both plans will have access to the region’s top clinical care and latest medical research at all UC Health locations, including:

  • University of Cincinnati Physicians
  • University of Cincinnati Medical Center
  • West Chester Hospital
  • Drake Center
  • UC Health Surgical Hospital

“We are very pleased to work together with Aetna in caring for our local residents,” said James A. Kingsbury, FACHE, President & CEO, UC Health. “Further, our commitment to excellence is demonstrated by the innovative reimbursement models present in this agreement.”

As part of the agreement, a portion of reimbursements received will be based on quality and efficiency metrics endorsed by the National Quality Forum (NQF). These standards have been adopted by the United States Department of Health and Human Services to actively link health care spending to performance-driven results, which benefit patients.

“UC Health is a well-respected system, and we’re so happy to have it as part of our network,” said Michelle Mathieu, Vice President of Network Services for Aetna.
