UC Health Appoints State Representative to Lead Strategic Community Planning

UC Health has appointed Christie Kuhns, Esq., State Representative for Ohio House District 32, to lead strategic community relations activities for the academic health system.

In this newly created role as director of community strategic planning, Kuhns is responsible for developing and implementing UC Health’s strategic goals as they apply to community engagement and care. She began in this new position in late September on a part-time basis, and will transition to full time at the end of 2016, upon completion of her term as State Representative.

Richard P. (Rick) Lofgren, MD, president and CEO of UC Health states, “Christie’s insight and ability to closely collaborate with leaders—both from our community and our state—is a tremendous asset to UC Health.”

Kuhns will lead UC Health’s Community Health Needs Assessment process and will work from that report to recommend strategies to meet the health needs of the populations served by UC Health.

Lofgren adds, “As UC Health continues development and outreach initiatives to best serve our region, we are confident Christie’s qualifications will advance these efforts and strengthen our commitment within the community.”

She will also work closely with UC Health’s community steering committee to further advance the health system’s relationship with the communities surrounding UC Health’s hospitals and outpatient offices, putting particular emphasis initially on Avondale, Clifton, Corryville and Walnut Hills.

Members of the community steering committee currently include representatives from the Cincinnati Health Department, the Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency and the Center for Closing the Health Gap.

As UC Health’s community strategic planning develops, additional neighborhood representatives and community organizations could become part of the effort.

“I’m proud of this work I see these efforts continuing through my role at UC Health,” states Christie Kuhns.
