UC Health Names Chief Administrative Officer for Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care

CINCINNATI (July 19, 2018) — UC Health has named Lafe Bauer, MHSA, as vice president for post-acute care services/chief administrative officer (CAO) for Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care, effective Aug. 7.

Lafe Bauer

Bauer is assistant vice president of post-acute services at Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, Texas, the primary teaching hospital for McGovern Medical School at University of Texas Health Science Center.

“I am looking forward to working alongside Lafe and the leadership team at Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care as we work to further develop our post-acute care services and relationships, provide the highest quality and safest care for our patients, and promote a second-to-none experience for our patients, their families and for one another,” said Ann Smith, senior vice president for inpatient services at UC Health.

In his role at Memorial Hermann, Bauer has been responsible for a variety of programs and initiatives. He has been accountable for managing a narrow network of high-quality preferred skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies and clinically aligned post-acute physicians. He has led systemwide initiatives to optimize medically appropriate utilization of long-term acute care (LTAC) and inpatient rehabilitation services. He has also been responsible for a telehealth-based nurse advocate program designed to reduce emergency department visits and hospital admissions/re-admissions.

He has also served as administrative leader for Memorial Hermann’s Supportive Medicine program, which has been instrumental in providing improved symptom control and psychosocial support to improve quality of life for patients experiencing advanced chronic disease.

Bauer previously worked as a healthcare administrator at Texas Children’s Hospital from 2009 to 2014. He holds a master’s degree in health sciences administration from the University of Kansas Medical Center and received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Kansas State University.

The previous chief administrative officer for Daniel Drake Center, Amy Schroyer, retired at the end of 2017.
