West Chester Hospital Among Nation’s Top 5% of Hospitals for Clinical Performance

West Chester, OH –January 21, 2016—UC Health’s West Chester Hospital has received Healthgrades® 2016 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™, placing it among the top five percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its clinical performance. Healthgrades is the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

Nationally, 260 hospitals out of 1,485 eligible hospitals were recognized as recipients of the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence. West Chester Hospital is among the top five percent of hospitals in the nation achieving high quality care metrics across at least 21 of 32 common inpatient conditions and procedures, as evaluated by Healthgrades.

“We are proud to be among Healthgrades’ top performing hospitals in Ohio and across the country for clinical excellence,” said Tom Daskalakis, Interim Chief Administrative Officer for West Chester Hospital. “Every member of our staff is dedicated to providing quality health care services to our patients. This recognition is further enhanced by our recognition from Healthgrades with the Outstanding Patient Experience AwardTM for four consecutive years (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) – placing us within the top 5 percent of the nation for patient satisfaction. We believe that this strong commitment to clinical quality and patient experience, as well as our academic affiliation with the University of Cincinnati, sets West Chester Hospital apart in the greater Cincinnati region.”

From 2012 through 2014, the recipients of the 2016 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence had a 26.5 percent lower risk-adjusted, in-hospital mortality rate across 19 procedures and conditions where mortality was the clinical outcome, compared to all other hospitals. During this same period, if all other hospitals performed at the level of Distinguished Hospital Award recipients, 158,858 lives could have potentially been saved. For example, patients treated at a hospital that achieved the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, had, on average, a 32 percent lower risk of dying from heart failure than if treated at a hospital that did not receive this distinction.

“When it comes to hospital selection, two of the most important questions to consider are where you are most likely to have a complication-free hospital stay and which hospital offers the best chance of survival, both during the hospital stay and in the weeks that follow,” said Evan Marks, chief strategy officer at Healthgrades. “Selecting a hospital that has achieved Healthgrades 2016 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence award is one way to be confident that you will receive the right care.”
