West Chester Hospital Presents $10,000 Check to the Lakota Fund

West Chester, May 31, 2013 — On May 28, officials from West Chester Hospital presented a $10,000 check to the Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty in support of a fund designed to address special programmatic needs of students and teachers within the Lakota Local School District.  The Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty administers the “Lakota Fund” account and ensures that dollars donated to the fund are properly directed to the school system through a structured application process.

“On behalf of the students and faculty of the Lakota Local School District, I offer our sincere gratitude for this wonderful gift,” stated Dr. Karen Mantia, superintendent. “We have enjoyed building a beneficial relationship with West Chester Hospital and are most appreciative of the contributions that they have made to enhance both learning and teaching opportunities for our students and staff.”

This contribution was made possible through West Chester Hospital’s second annual fundraising event which was held on April 26. Each year, the hospital’s special fundraising event helps raise dollars that are applied to either the purchase of new medical equipment or a service that enhances the patient care experience at West Chester Hospital. This year, it was decided that a portion of the proceeds from the event would be given to the Lakota Fund, as a means to help provide grants for a wide range of workshops, experiences, resource materials, special projects and student leadership opportunities.

“We are very pleased that West Chester Hospital has demonstrated such a strong interest in helping build the Lakota Fund through this much-appreciated donation,” said Patti Alderson, Community Foundation president. “Through their support, this valuable fund will continue to supplement educational opportunities for Lakota schools, and we value our ongoing partnership with the hospital.”

“Since our inception, West Chester Hospital has served as a proud sponsor of the local community, not only as a health care partner, but through our support of various initiatives designed to enrich non-profit organizations, educational facilities and civic groups. I am especially proud of our ongoing ability to provide greater learning opportunities for our local students and teachers, and we will continue to seek such beneficial collaborations in the future,” stated Kevin Joseph, MD, president and CEO.

Aside from raising dollars in support of the Lakota Fund, proceeds generated from West Chester Hospital’s recent fundraising event will be applied toward the purchase of special orthopaedics equipment to address growing demand.
