Weight loss is complicated; it can be affected by stress, sleep quality and various other factors.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why we\u2019ve developed a robust non-surgical weight management options built around four key components: medical, nutrition, lifestyle modfication, and physicial activity. It\u2019s a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to weight management, combining scientific research, sound nutrition and our extensive team of clinical experts.<\/p>\n<p>Medical weight management is for patients with a Body Mass Index 30+ or 27-29.9 with an obesity related condition such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, or sleep apnea.  Some services may not be safe if currently on dialysis, pregnant, or undergoing cancer treatment.  A patient advocate can answer questions about program limitations.<\/p>\n<h3>New Beginning Program<\/h3>\n<p>New Beginning is medically supervised by an Obesity Medicine Physician and includes intensive lifestyle intervention, partial meal replacement, weekly follow-up, and interactive group education sessions with a Clinical Dietitian.<br \/>\nThis program incorporates long-term engagement and proven strategies for sustainable weight loss. A commitment of at least 12 weeks is required.  Weekly group sessions are available virtually, with in person appointments with a Dietitian and Physician.  Meal replacement products are available at the weight loss center, and meal plans are developed individually.<br \/>\nThe first appointment is a detailed assessment with the physician that includes an EKG, Body Composition, and Metabolic Labs.  After the assessment, patients are scheduled for an orientation with the dietitian where you will learn about meal plans, nutrition needs, and expected weight loss.<\/p>\n<h3>Medical Nutrition<\/h3>\n<p>Weight Loss Center clinical dietitians specialize in weight management and obesity treatment.  They work with patients individually to create a plan of care that is driven by research backed strategies for success and personally achievable to maintain long-term.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to understand weight loss goals and current lifestyle so new habits can be incorporated that are realistic.  Because obesity affects most all other health conditions, our dietitians collaborate with Primary Care Physicians and Specialists.<\/p>\n<h3>Obesity Medicine Physician<\/h3>\n<p>Obesity medicine Diplomates are certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM), as experts in treating obesity and the genetic, biologic, environmental, social, and behavioral factors that contribute to obesity.  They utilize therapeutic interventions including diet, physical activity, lifestyle change and pharmacotherapy.<\/p>\n<p>The UC Health Weight Loss Center demonstrates a comprehensive weight management approach by employing all specialties to help patients lose weight including nutrition, behavioral health, obesity medication, lifestyle intervention, physical activity, metabolic treatment, and bariatric surgery.  <\/p>\n<h3>Getting Started<\/h3>\n<p>The first step is to sign up for a virtual Informational Seminar.
