UC Health Hospitals Rated Among U.S. News & World Report 2022-23 Best Hospitals

Jul. 26, 2022

CINCINNATI - UC Health’s UC Medical Center and West Chester Hospital have been recognized among the best hospitals in Ohio and in the region by U.S. News & World Report.

The publication’s annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in its thirty-third year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

UC Medical Center, Greater Cincinnati’s only Level I trauma center, is ranked as one of the top four best regional hospitals (out of 25) in Greater Cincinnati. It is also ranked 16 out of 144 hospitals in the state of Ohio—and one of only three hospitals in the Greater Cincinnati region to achieve enough high-performing care ratings to become eligible to receive a rating at state level.

“At UC Health, we are relentless in our pursuit of advancing healing and reducing suffering for all patients,” said Rick Hinds, interim president & CEO and executive vice president and CFO. “As Greater Cincinnati’s only adult academic health system, we achieve this by combining outstanding clinical care, scientific and clinical research, and medical education. We are proud that these efforts have achieved national and state recognition.”

UC Medical Center is also ranked by U.S. News & World Report as high-performing, nationally, in the procedures and conditions of heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, stroke care, lung cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and kidney failure. UC Medical Center is the region’s only Level I trauma center and is a referral destination for the most advanced cancer and neuroscience care and treatment from all over the United States.

West Chester Hospital is ranked as high-performing, nationally, in the procedures and conditions of kidney failure, heart failure, stroke care, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and hip fracture care. West Chester Hospital is a Magnet® hospital, recognized for nursing excellence, and is a verified Level III trauma center. It is also routinely named among the best places to work in the region and the state.

In April, UC Medical Center and West Chester Hospital were also named among the 2022 World’s Best Hospitals for clinical excellence by Newsweek magazine.

“Our clinicians and employees work relentlessly every day to provide outstanding care to our patients, and this recognition truly belongs to them,” said Rob Wiehe, president and chief administrative officer of UC Medical Center and senior vice president and chief supply chain & logistics officer for UC Health.

For the 2022-2023 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. State and regional area rankings reflect the highest performing hospitals in the area across multiple areas of care.

U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance using a variety of measures such as survival rates, complication rates, patient experience and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals methodology factors in data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations, and medical specialists.
