UC Medical Center Front Entrance Will Be Closed and New Route to Access UC Medical Center

Effective, Thursday, August 5, access to the UC Medical Center front entrance will be under construction and a new detour will be required to access main lobby. Construction will continue until May 2022 as we revitalize our Clifton Campus to provide you with a world-class patient experience. Patients and families will still have access to the UC Medical Center lobby. The Goodman Garage will serve as an alternative patient drop off, located in front of the UC Medical Center hospital. Follow the signs posted in the garage for directions.

New Emergency Department Tower and New Surgical Building

The focal point of our Clifton Campus Revitalization is our new Emergency Department tower and new surgical building.

The new tower will include an expanded ED, an Observation unit and a new Flex ICU. The new surgical building will include eight new operating rooms, new surgery waiting and pre-op clinics, and renovation and expansion of sterile processing.

We are currently in the schematic design phase, and plan to finalize and share final renderings in mid-December.

Clinical and Non-Clinical Department Relocations 

In order to accommodate these new buildings, we are near completion of more than 40 enabling projects that included relocating clinical and non-clinical offices from our B-Pavilion, Old Operating Pavilion and Radiology Administration buildings.

These three buildings will be demolished to pave the way for the new Emergency Department tower and new surgical building.

Below are a list of patient-facing clinics relocating as part of the project.

• Trauma/Surgery Clinic
  Old Location: Outpatient 2nd Floor
  New Location: MAB 7th Floor

• Wound/Podiatry Clinic
  Old Location: Outpatient 1st Floor
  New Location: MAB 5th Floor

• Centering Office
  Old Location: B-Pavilion 1st Floor

• Diabetes Education
  Old Location: B-Pavilion 1st Floor

Upcoming Timeline and Closures

Over the next few weeks and months, you’ll notice a significant increase in construction activity. Below is a rundown of planned key dates.

• Week of Nov. 8: Construction Trailer and Fences Erected on Campus
• Sunday, Nov. 15: Tunnel between Outpatient Building and B-Pavilion permanently disconnected. Please follow the detour signs.
• Week of Nov. 15: Access to Porch closed (open for emergency exit).
  
• Week of Dec. 6: Start demolition of Radiology Administration building.
  
• Week of Jan. 1, 2021: Stairwell exits to Porch from Mont Reid, CCP and Lab Building closed, new exit pathways established through the ground floor of the three buildings.
  
• February 2021: Start demolition of Old Operating Pavilion.
• Early 2021: Start demolition of B-Pavilion.

Safety Considerations

The safety of our patients and our employees remains our top priority. The UC Health Facilities team has worked with a life safety consultant, City of Cincinnati Fire Department and the Ohio State Fire Marshall to ensure proper interim life safety measures and temporary exit passageways will be in place. 

In addition, requirements were developed to ensure a safe and healthy work environment by confirming all construction teams, including their subcontractors, have a COVID-19 exposure prevention and response plan that follows OSHA and CDC guidance to minimize any potential COVID-19 exposure.
