Juliet Wolford, MD

Juliet Wolford, MD, specializes in gynecologic oncology. Everything about the specialty motivated her to pursue a career in medicine: the surgery, complex medicine, research, technology and continuity of care. Most of all, she loves the patients, their families and the relationships that are built as an individualized treatment plan is created and carried through.

Her research focus has been predominantly in technology, with an additional interest in cost-effectiveness studies, including: the creation of 3D-printed speculums for use in cervical cancer screening programs in low-resource settings, investigating the utilization of microfluidic devices to support 3D-vascularized micro-organs to analyze chemotherapeutic and antiangiogenic therapies on ovarian cancer and several cost-effective analyses studies of current treatments for ovarian cancer.

Most recently, in 2019, Dr. Wolford was selected as the winner of the OncLive Innovative Technology in Cancer Care Challenge for her work in the creation of 3D-printed vaginal speculums used within screen-and-treat cervical neoplasia programs in low-resource countries.

Dr. Wolford has a former background in architecture and digital design in which she had the opportunity to work on the design team for the Pentagon Memorial. She built relationships with victims’ families, as we helped memorialize those they had lost. It was these relationships that propelled her to pursue a career in medicine, and although she left architecture, she is passionate about finding ways to incorporate what she learned as an architect into her research and to take experiences she had with those families to help shape the connections she forms with her patients.
