Jeffrey Sussman, MD, is Professor of Surgical Oncology and serves on the executive committee of the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute and Program leader for Melanoma and Sarcoma sections. He trained in General Surgery and Critical Care Surgery at the University of Michigan and has additional fellowship training in Surgical Oncology from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He completed Medical School at UCLA and Tumor Immunology Research at the NIH. He joined the Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati in 1997.
His clinical practice focuses on surgical oncology with an emphasis on melanoma, sarcoma, and gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary/pancreas malignancies and endocrine neoplasms. He is a member of the Pancreas, Esophagus and Liver Disease Centers and co-initiated the Cytoreduction and Hyperthermic Chemoperfusion (HIPEC) program at UC for the treatment of advanced appendix and peritoneal surface malignancies. He also established the regional hyperthermic chemotherapy perfusion program for advanced extremity melanoma, merkel cell and other soft tissue cancers.
Dr. Sussman is active in clinical research. He has served as principal investigator for a variety of laboratory and clinical trials, many exploring how the human immune response can be altered to improve cancer therapy. He has published numerous articles focused on advancing treatments and understanding of melanoma and other solid tumors. He has been named a ‘Best Doctor in America’ by Cincy Magazine and is a member of America’s Top Surgeons. He sees patients at the UC Health Barrett Center in Clifton and the UC Health Physicians Office in West Chester.
