Dr. Pritts completed surgery residency, a PhD in Physiology, and a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Cincinnati. He joined the UC faculty in 2004.
Dr. Pritts specializes in general surgery, trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care. He has special interests in patients with gallbladder and biliary disease, hernia, and those in need of abdominal wall reconstruction. He is certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery, with Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
From an administrative standpoint, Dr. Pritts has served roles as program director of the general surgery residency, vice chair of education, vice chair of professional development, vice chair of compensation, and vice chair for clinical operations. He is currently professor of surgery and chief of the section of general surgery, where he leads programs providing care for trauma, general surgery, bariatric surgery, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care patients for the UC Health system.
Dr. Pritts is active in academic surgical societies and has served on the executive councils of the Central Surgical Association, Society of University Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery, Shock Society, and the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He is currently president-elect of the Central Surgical Association and the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. A Cincinnati Magazine “Top Doctor,” he been the recipient of the UCMC Doctors’ Day Award, UCMC Physician of the Quarter, ESGR Patriot Award for Ohio Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the UC College of Medicine’s Research Service Award, and the UC College of Medicine Excellence in Mentoring Award.
Dr. Pritts also leads an active research program that seeks to improve care for injured and critically ill patients, with a focus on resuscitation strategies and blood product improvement. His research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense. Results of this work have been presented nationally and internationally.
