Investigating Unique Brain Biomarkers In Elite Athletes

Posted Date: Apr 22, 2024

  • Investigator: Brady Williamson
  • Type of Study: Observational/Survey

Elite athleticism is a unique form of expertise that involves mastery of both mental and physical processes. Few studies to date have investigated the brain changes associated with elite athleticism at the highest professional level, by using cutting-edge MRI and MEG techniques to gain a comprehensive understanding of brain structure and function. With this study, we aim to extend previous findings on brain biomarkers of elite athletic performance by using modern MRI techniques and MEG to investigate biomarkers of elite athletic performance in hockey players (NHL), American football players (NFL), and professional fighters (UFC), and elite military personnel. This will be the first investigation of this topic using MEG and advanced MRI techniques.

Criteria:

The Only Eligibility Criteria For This Study Are Being Categorized As An Elite Athlete And Having No Contraindications For Mri Or Meg.

Keywords:

Neuroimaging, Brain Connectivity, Neuroanatomy
