Oral health has increasingly been recognized as an important but often overlooked component of overall well-being in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Poor oral health may contribute to systemic inflammation, cardiovascular risk, and adverse outcomes in dialysis and transplant populations. Despite this, little is known about how nephrology care providers perceive oral health within their clinical practice. To explore the perspectives of nephrology care providers regarding the importance, challenges, and integration of oral health in kidney disease management. We will conduct a qualitative study using semi-structured surveys and in-depth interviews with nephrologists, advanced practice providers, nephrology trainees. Thematic analysis will be employed to identify recurring patterns and unique insights into providers’ awareness, perceived relevance, barriers, and opportunities for incorporating oral health into nephrology care. This study is expected to highlight gaps in awareness and practice, identify structural and educational barriers, and capture potential strategies suggested by providers to address oral health in CKD care. Findings will provide an understanding of how nephrology care providers view oral health, guiding the development of interdisciplinary approaches and informing future educational or policy initiatives aimed at integrating oral health into kidney care.
