Observation experiences offer valuable insight into the diverse career paths available in healthcare and may also fulfill prerequisites for certain graduate-level programs. UC Health provides shadowing opportunities across a variety of departments and clinical specialties to observe healthcare professionals in action and gain a deeper understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and work environments within the healthcare system.

Important Guidelines:

• All observation experiences must be approved in advance by the UC Health Educational Placements team.
• A sponsoring staff member must be identified to host the observer, and all required documentation, including vaccination and identification records, must be submitted prior to approval.
• Observers are prohibited from engaging in hands-on activities, including interaction with patients, medical equipment, or access to medical records. Observers may only watch and learn.

Availability & Requests:

• Observation availability varies by department and is subject to scheduling limitations.
• Requests for specific departments or preceptors are welcome, though not guaranteed due to capacity constraints.
• The duration of observation experiences is determined by departmental availability and the nature of the request.
