Around 200 babies are born at UC Medical Center each month, and the maternity ward features 28 postpartum beds. UC Medical Center is a recognized leader in women’s health in the tristate area and has received many awards including Certified Perinatal Center by the Joint Commission, an organization that accredits and certifies hospitals nationwide to improve healthcare and provide safe and effective care for patients. UC Medical Center is also recognized as the first baby-friendly hospital in the state of Ohio.
On Tuesday Sept. 10, Simple Stitches, a small sewing group from Bridgeway Pointe, made a visit to UC Medical Center to share some of their amazing creations. In the past, they’ve worked on various service projects to benefit the local community.
This time, Simple Stitches brought baby bibs and burp cloths to give to the mothers of newborn babies.
The group of talented sewers, led by Lynne Vienot, administrative coordinator at Bridgeway Pointe, met with Linda Heald, program coordinator for patient experiences for women’s health services. They also reunited with Erica, a UC Health nurse who works in the maternity unit.
Before coming to UC Medical Center, Erica worked as a recreation specialist for both Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care and Bridgeway Pointe. She has now been at UC Medical Center for about three years. While she was at Bridgeway Pointe, she had the chance to work with Simple Stitches as a life enrichment specialist.
“It’s sort of like coming full circle,” Erica said. “It’s amazing to see the collaboration between the UC Health facilities and seeing their hard work at Bridgeway Pointe to help the moms down here.”
Linda, who’s worked at UC Health for six years, has the opportunity to make every mother’s experience at UC Medical Center the best it can be.
“Anyone who goes home, I say that we never forget the honor of being a part of this amazing experience,” Linda said.
Linda plans on continuing to work with Lynne and Simple Stitches in the future to create even better gifts that will add to the memorable experience mothers receive at UC Medical Center.
