Media Policies

Our policies work to protect the privacy of our patients and to provide our media partners with ample opportunities for media coverage.

Visiting a UC Health Facility

To protect the privacy of our patients, visitors and employees, UC Health policies require members of the news media to be escorted by a UC Health Media Relations representative when onsite at any of our inpatient and outpatient campuses.

Advance approval is required before any interview, photos or video will be permitted. Please email media@uchealth.com or call 513-503-3368 to make arrangements.

Media Staging Area

A  media staging area is provided on UC Health’s Clifton Campus for the purposes of accommodating members of the news media during breaking news events and for TV stand-ups.

The media staging area is located at the south corner of Bellevue Avenue and Piedmont Avenue, across the street from the main entrance of the UC Medical Center. Parking is available on the surface lot (Lot 22) immediately across from the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute.

Media are not permitted to film at any other location on campus without prior approval and a media escort.

Condition Reports

Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), patients and their families may choose to be listed in the patient directory at our inpatient facilities. If a patient is listed, UC Health Media Relations is able to confirm that information and provide a one-word condition report.

To obtain a condition report, please call our 24/7 media hotline, 513-503-3368.

Condition reports include:

  • Undetermined: Patient is awaiting physician and/or assessment.

  • Good: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.

  • Fair: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.

  • Serious: Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.

  • Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.

  • Not Listed: A patient by that name is not listed in the hospital directory, either by choosing to opt-out or because they are not a patient at our hospital.
