Rebecca J. Howell, MD is Associate Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology and first ever Chief of the Division of Laryngology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she also serves as the first Fellowship Director in Laryngology. She earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, completed residency in Head and Neck Surgery at George Washington University, and pursued fellowship training in Laryngology at Medical College of Georgia.
Dr. Howell is internationally recognized for her expertise in swallowing and voice disorders, serving as editor of Comprehensive Management of Swallowing Disorders, 2nd Edition, and initiating the first multicenter collaborative research initiative for Zenker diverticulum known as the Prospective Outcomes Cricopharyngeal Hypertonicity (POuCH) ongoing since 2016. Her research focuses on innovative diagnostic approaches, laryngo-tracheal and esophageal surgery, and multidisciplinary translational teams, with her Triological Thesis advancing visualization of laryngeal closure during swallowing. An elected member of the Triological Society, the American Laryngological Association, and Treasurer of the American Broncho-Esophagological Association, Dr. Howell has been honored with multiple awards for teaching, leadership, and service, including the AAO-HNS Honors Award and consistent recognition among Castle Connolly and Cincinnati Top Doctors.
