Kristine Karkoska, MD, is trained in pediatric hematology and oncology and has a focus in nonmalignant hematology. Dr. Karkoska has a particular interest in inherited hemoglobinopathies, especially sickle cell disease (SCD).
She has worked with a variety of underserved populations throughout the U.S. and internationally; these experiences sparked her interest in SCD, which also affects a predominantly underserved, minority population and does not receive the recognition of other inherited diseases.
When asked what “In Science Lives Hope” means to her, Dr. Karkoska said she believes that through the scientific process (from the laboratory to the phase III randomized clinical trial), we can make true advancements in therapies that will help patients. This gives patients and their families hope for a better life or outcome. She enjoys forming relationships with her patients and following them over time.
Dr. Karkoska enjoys running and has participated in 14 marathons so far. She enjoys reading and quilting, too.
