Claudia Vollman is a certified speech-language pathologist working in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and conducting research in the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Dysphagia Rehabilitation Laboratory. She specializes in treating patients with head and neck cancer, voice disorders, swallowing disorders, and neurological diseases, amongst other conditions. Her certifications include Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Myofascial release therapy for the head and neck, Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP), and SPEAK OUT! & LOUD Crowd. She is passionate about the multidisciplinary collaboration among the UC Health head and neck cancer surgeons, laryngologists, dieticians, therapists, social workers, nurses, and more to deliver the best possible patient care.
As the clinical research coordinator for the Dysphagia Rehabilitation Laboratory, Claudia is responsible for screening, recruiting, and consenting patients to participate in dysphagia clinical research. She follows patients throughout trials and is responsible for conducting therapeutic interventions. Additionally, she oversees coordinating and conducting modified barium swallow studies at the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute. Claudia works closely with institutional and international study teams to ensure data is collected and reported accurately and that the trial process goes accordingly. Claudia is trained in several analyses to assess impairments in swallowing. She finds her research to be rewarding and enjoys implementing what’s learned in the lab into the clinic.
She received her bachelor’s in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Miami University and her master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Cincinnati. She completed her clinical fellowship at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In her free time, she enjoys cooking, coaching field hockey at her alma mater, and spending quality time with friends and family.
