Our patient volumes have increased dramatically since the 1980s, when the emergency department was designed and built. Today, UC Medical Center sees more than 65,000 patients annually.

As the region’s only Level I Trauma Center for adults, it is our responsibility and privilege to be fully prepared to care for our community in times of crisis.
The newly designed emergency department will have additional capacity to handle the unexpected surges in demand accompanying any crisis, as well as a flexible intensive care unit to expedite transfers from across the region.
