About Our Program

What is Stepping On?

Stepping On is a 7-week, research-backed fall prevention program proven to decrease falls by 31%. Fewer falls mean fewer injuries, emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and even deaths related to falls. The program is for adult learners and is led by expert trainers who give practical, real-world strategies for staying safe and active.

Who should attend?

This program is ideal for adults who:

  • Are at risk of falling

  • Have a fear of falling

  • Have fallen one or more times

Caregivers, family members and others supporting older adults may also benefit from attending.

Do I need to have fallen before to attend?

No. Stepping On is appropriate for anyone who wants to reduce their fall risk, increase confidence, and learn strategies to prevent falls—even if they have never fallen.

What education topics might I learn about?

Participants will learn:

  • Balance and strength exercises to reduce fall risk

  • How vision, medications and footwear affect balance and falls

  • Strategies for identifying and eliminating fall hazards at home and in the community

  • Goal-setting techniques to safely engage in life activities that matter most

Guest speakers such as Physical Therapists, Optometrists, Pharmacists and Community Law Enforcement provide expert guidance and interactive learning opportunities.

How long is the Stepping On program?

The program runs for seven weeks, with one 2-hour session per week.

Is there a physical activity or exercise component?

Yes. Each session includes practical balance and strength exercises, taught by trained professionals. Participation is optional but encouraged.

Where is Stepping On offered?

Workshops are held in community-based settings, including senior centers, churches, and community organizations, in a small group format of 14–18 participants.

Can this program be brought to our organization or community group?

Yes. Stepping On can be scheduled for senior centers, churches, and other community organizations.

What are the benefits of attending Stepping On?

Participants in Stepping On:

  • Gain confidence in managing health behaviors that reduce fall risk

  • Learn practical, evidence-based strategies to prevent falls inside and outside the home

  • Build strength, improve balance and learn to safely navigate daily activities

  • Reduce fear of falling and maintain an active, fulfilling lifestyle
