Established in 1963, the Adult Burn Center at UC Medical Center has more than six decades of experience caring for patients with complex burn injuries and continues to serve as the region's only adult burn center and a leader in burn treatment, education and innovation.
The ABA commended the Burn Center for its continued commitment to excellence and dedication to providing high-quality burn care. Reverification recognizes burn centers that consistently meet the organization's rigorous standards for patient care, safety, clinical expertise and continuous quality improvement.
"Receiving reverification from the American Burn Association reflects our unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality care for patients with complex burn injuries," said Tara Williams, CNO, UC Medical Center. "We view this process not simply as recognition that we meet national standards, but as an opportunity to continually raise them through clinical excellence, innovation and patient-centered care. This achievement reflects the expertise and dedication of our multidisciplinary team and their commitment to serving our community every day."
The ABA verification program evaluates burn centers through a comprehensive review of patient care, staffing, facilities, education, research and performance improvement. Burn centers must demonstrate sustained excellence and adherence to nationally recognized best practices to achieve and maintain verification.
"As the only adult burn center in the region, this reverification reflects our team's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional, compassionate care for patients with complex burn injuries," said Uzair Qazi, MD, medical director of the UC Medical Center Burn Center. "This achievement belongs to every member of our multidisciplinary team—from physicians and nurses to therapists, pharmacists, case managers and support staff. Together, they provide expert care while helping patients and their families navigate every step of the recovery journey."
The UC Medical Center Burn Center collaborates with UC Medical Center's Level I Trauma Center and provides comprehensive care for patients with burn injuries from emergency treatment through rehabilitation and recovery. Its multidisciplinary team includes burn surgeons, critical care specialists, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers and rehabilitation experts, ensuring patients receive coordinated, specialized care throughout their recovery.
"This reverification from the ABA is more than a recognition of excellence—it is a promise to our community," said Kacey Thomas, MSN, RN, program manager at the UC Medical Center Burn Center. "It means that during some of life's most difficult moments, patients and their families can trust they are receiving care that meets the highest national standards. Every day, our team combines advanced clinical expertise with compassion, resilience and hope to help burn survivors heal and move forward."
Equipped with advanced technology and specialized facilities, the Burn Center is dedicated to improving outcomes through evidence-based care, innovation and continuous quality improvement. As part of an academic health system, UC Health also plays a vital role in educating the next generation of burn care specialists while advancing the field through research, clinical collaboration and innovation.
The Burn Center's reverification reinforces UC Health's commitment to providing the highest level of specialized burn care to patients throughout Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and the surrounding region.
