WEST CHESTER - West Chester Hospital is one of the first in the U.S. to use hip replacement surgery technology, improving patient outcomes.

UC Health orthopaedic surgeon Todd Kelley, MD, recently performed the hip replacement surgery at West Chester Hospital, using the Corin Optimized Positioning System ™ (OPS) – the only FDA-approved technology of its kind.

“Currently, surgeons ensure proper implant alignment using only their vision,” said Kelley. “OPS provides us with a highly enhanced visual method of inserting the implant in exactly the right place for each individual patient, tailored to their unique hip movement.”

On Nov. 7, 2016, Kelley, a leading researcher in the field of hip replacement surgery and an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, along with nine other surgeons across the country, simultaneously performed surgery utilizing the laser-guided technology.

Prior to surgery, a series of X-rays are taken, producing a set of high-resolution, 3-D images. These images of the patient’s hip and pelvis ensure that each patient receives an individualized plan for their specific surgery.

“As the region’s only provider of locally delivered academic medicine, UC Health is committed to administering high-quality medical care using the most-advanced equipment and technology to improve patient outcomes,” said Michael Archdeacon, MD, medical director of UC Health Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, director of the Division of Musculoskeletal Traumatology for University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the UC College of Medicine, “the implementation of OPS at West Chester Hospital further emphasizes that commitment.”

OPS is marketed by Corin USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Corin Group. Kelley volunteers as a consultant for Corin USA.
