Botox

Wrinkle Injections

Botox® (the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin) is a non-surgical injection that works by blocking nerve impulses that cause muscles to contract and form wrinkles and furrows. Dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial expression can be treated with Botox®. When injected under the skin, Botox® temporarily reduces or eliminates forehead creases, frown lines, and “crows feet” near the eye area.

Procedure Benefits

  • Relaxation of wrinkles and furrows

Private Consultation

Your surgeon will begin with an examination of the area to be treated. You will discuss your goals and expectations, and the surgeon will explain what you may expect from treatment. The surgeon will evaluate your overall health to ascertain that you are a good candidate for this procedure. You should be prepared to discuss your complete medical history, including previous procedures and any medications you are taking (including vitamins). You will also discuss the cost of the procedure, keeping in mind that this is an elective procedure which is not covered by most insurance companies. Women who are pregnant should postpone Botox® injections until after pregnancy. Patients who have nervous system diseases such as ALS should not receive injections of Botox®.

Preparation

No special preparation is needed for this procedure.

Procedure Overview

The area to be treated will be cleansed and prepped. You will be asked to tense the area that will be treated to allow the surgeon better placement for the injections. You may feel a brief discomfort from the injection.

Recovery and Healing Time

Recovery is immediate following the injection of Botox®, and you may immediately return to work or social activities. You may experience mild bruising that improves within a few days. You will begin to see improvement in your wrinkles within 24 hours and continue to see improvement over the next 5 days. Expect to repeat Botox® treatments every 3-6 months depending on individual results.

Procedure Risks

  • Temporary eyelid droop
