This research study is being done to determine the effect of treating hearing loss with cochlear implantation (CI) versus continued use of hearing aids (HA) in adults 65 to 85 years old. You are being asked to be in this study because you are a candidate for a cochlear implant. The main purpose of this study to determine the effect of treating hearing loss with cochlear implantation (CI) versus continued use of hearing aids (HA) in adults 65 to 85 years of age. In addition to assessing the effect of treating hearing loss, the study will also evaluate your cognitive function (e.g. how you comprehend and use information), psychosocial behaviors (e.g. impact of hearing loss on activities), daily activities, and physical function over time.
