High-Risk Pregnancy

Treating Two Patients at the Same Time

“Maternal-fetal” refers to the care of both mother and baby. Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine team cares for pregnant women with chronic health conditions, such as hypertension or diabetes. We also care for mothers whose baby has been prenatally diagnosed with a birth defect.

Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine team is recognized for remarkable expertise and exceptional dedication, compassion and extensive involvement in the latest advances in maternal and fetal care. In fact, Maternal-Fetal Medicine providers from around the U.S. routinely refer their most complicated cases to our team at UC Health.

UC Medical Center is the first and only Level IV maternity hospital in Greater Cincinnati, and one of just seven Level IV maternity hospitals in Ohio. A Level IV maternity hospital is a regional perinatal health care center able to treat the most complex medical conditions during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.

UC Medical Center has also been named a 2023-24 ‘Best Hospital for Maternity Care’ and ‘High Performing’ designation by U.S. News & World Report. UC Medical Center is also named a 2023 ‘Birthing-Friendly’ hospital by the United States Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Additionally, UC Medical Center was ranked as one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals by Newsweek and Statista Inc.
