ADVISORY: COVID-19 Vaccinations Approved for Children Ages 5-11

Nov. 3, 2021

CINCINNATI - Parents and guardians can now make COVID-19 vaccine appointments at UC Health for their children.

UC Health is now offering COVID-19 vaccinations for children, ages 5-11, in addition to the previously approved 12 and older age groups.

The Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices have approved the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine pediatric formulation for children, ages 5-11, following a thorough review of the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness.

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11 is administered as a two-dose primary series, three weeks apart, but is a lower dose (10 micrograms) than that used for individuals 12 and older (30 micrograms).

Now that the federal review and authorization process is complete, parents and guardians can make an appointment for their children to receive a COVID-19 vaccine at UC Health (or at any other approved vaccine distributor), effective immediately. Appointments at UC Health are required in advance and are available based on state supplies on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be no out-of-pocket cost for individuals who get the vaccine at UC Health.

Vaccination appointments are currently available at the UC Health Outpatient Pharmacy at Hoxworth Center: 3130 Highland Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45219.
