University of Cincinnati Cancer Center Earns Renewal of International Recognition for Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Program

Jan. 15, 2026

Cincinnati, OH — The University of Cincinnati Cancer Center has earned renewal for its accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), the global benchmark for quality in cellular therapy, including blood and marrow transplantation. This achievement validates the Center’s ongoing commitment to patient safety, quality care, and clinical excellence.

FACT accreditation is voluntary and requires programs to meet the most rigorous standards in the field. Accredited organizations undergo comprehensive, peer-reviewed inspections by experts who actively practice cellular therapy. This process ensures compliance with protocols that protect patients and optimize outcomes.

“FACT accreditation is a peer review process which validates our program’s ability to provide high quality care,” said Ed Faber, DO, MS, a physician-researcher at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center. “Answering to your peers in a review process is one of the highest measures of scrutiny. FACT accreditation translates into one of the highest priorities towards improving patient experience and outcomes and genuinely increasing hope for patients and families facing blood cancers.”

What FACT Accreditation Means for Patients

FACT-JACIE International Standards are developed by leading experts and innovators in cellular therapy, with input from the global transplant community. These standards represent the most comprehensive guidelines in the field, specifically:

  • Care delivered by highly experienced teams who understand the unique needs of hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC) transplant patients.

  • Medical directors and program personnel meet strict educational and experience requirements.

  • Clinical programs perform a requisite number of transplants annually, ensuring expertise and proficiency.

  • All procedures follow policies designed for the safe administration of cells and optimal patient care.

  • Quality management systems guide every step, supported by ongoing training and review.

FACT accreditation is recognized by medical professionals, payers, and regulators as a mark of quality. This distinction is held by some of the leading cancer centers in the nation and the world. The University of Cincinnati Cancer Center is the only academic adult Blood Marrow Transplant program in the greater Cincinnati region, delivering blood and marrow transplantation and other cellular treatments through the Blood Cancer & Cellular Therapy program.
