Help Along the Way

Answers to Your Anterior Hip Replacement Questions

During an anterior hip replacement, damaged bones are replaced with artificial joints, usually made of metal and plastic components.

This procedure is less invasive than a traditional hip replacement and causes less damage to the surrounding muscles and tendons, leading to a faster recovery with fewer restrictions. It also helps reduce pain, improves mobility and results in less scarring due to smaller incisions.

In addition, many patients return home in less than 24 hours following surgery.

All forms of hip arthritis, including osteoarthrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis of the hip and post-traumatic arthritis can be treated with this procedure.

An anterior hip replacement surgery is related to need, not age, and depends on the level of pain and discomfort the patient is experiencing.

However, patients that receive a hip replacement at a younger age may need to have a second procedure performed later in life.

Recovery times for this procedure vary from person to person, but this treatment option can help accelerate recovery and time spent in rehabilitation.

Finally, most hip replacement surgeries are covered by insurance, but please contact your insurance provider to verify your coverage and for more information as needed.
