Understanding Our Non-Surgical
Weight Management Program
If you struggle with your weight, know that you are not alone. Nearly 70 percent of American adults are either overweight or obese.¹ The UC Health Weight Loss Center offers a non-surgical weight management program that will help you lose weight and live a healthier life.
Our center understands that the battle to reach and maintain a healthy weight is highly personal, and that one-size-fits-all diet programs are not the answer. Weight loss is complicated; it can be affected by stress, sleep quality and various other factors. As part of a multidisciplinary medical center, we can help you work with experts in many other specialties, such as endocrinology, cardiology and the UC Health Women’s Center, to further help you reach your optimal health.
Getting Started
The first step is to attend our FREE Non-Surgical Weight Loss Program Informational Seminar. During the seminar, you will be able to meet members of our experienced team, learn more about our program and pricing, and discuss the health issues that relate to obesity. Register for an upcoming seminar.
When you choose to enroll in our non-surgical weight loss program, first you will be scheduled for an initial assessment, during which we will review your medical health history and perform some basic tests and screenings, including body composition, resting metabolic rate, comprehensive blood work, EKG and more. This gives us a clear picture of your overall health and helps determine our personalized recommendations for you.
After your initial assessment, all patients attend an orientation class to further outline the program, set expectations and answer any questions you might have.
Meal Replacement Options
Our program incorporates meal replacement products that are designed to provide maximum nutrition with minimal calories. We offer a variety of shakes, bars and soups for sale in our office. Our three-step program, guided by our physician and registered dietitians, offers you a structured plan to meet your weight loss goals and lifestyle needs. We also offer high quality vitamin and mineral supplements if indicated by our healthcare team or desired by the patient.
Tracking Tools
Research has consistently shown that those who self-monitor and track their progress lose more weight. In fact, a researcher from one recent study demonstrated that people keeping a food diary six days a week lost about twice as much weight as those who kept food records only one day a week or less. The benefits of tracking include: increasing personal awareness, accountability, and knowledge about the nutrition content of foods.
We recommend tracking your intake of food (types, calories and protein) along with water intake, physical activity and sleep. There are many devices, online resources and smart phone apps available that make this process not only easy, but fun. Popular resources include MyFitnessPal, SparkPeople and LoseIt. Many patients choose to bring their tracking records with them to appointments. These records provide invaluable information for your weight loss team in helping to maximize your weight loss success.
