University Hospital is one of the first and only centers in the area to employ an ESI mapping system. This new and exciting 3-D technology allows for sharp, real-time images of the heart structures. Treatment Options for Every Patient

An individualized plan of care is developed for each patient, depending on evaluation. University Hospital’s Atrial Fibrillation Center offers a full array of comprehensive treatment options:

  • Medical management - Anticoagulation and medications to control irregular heart rhythm can be fully monitored and adjusted by our dedicated staff.
  • Radiofrequency catheter ablation – Minimally invasive advancement in the treatment of arrhythmias, this procedure is performed by one of our board-certified electrophysiologists and results in a one-night stay.
  • Device implants
  • Maze procedure – Often performed in conjunction with other heart procedures, such as mitral valve repair or coronary artery bypass grafting, the Maze procedure has demonstrated high success rates in patients with advanced atrial fibrillation.

Specialized Electrophysiology Services

University Hospital has one of the most advanced electrophysiology labs (EP) in the area. Our EP cardiologists are trained in invasive, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for patients with heart rhythm disorders. Each patient’s care is approached on an individual basis and care plans are based on the latest in the formidable field of electrophysiology.

This advanced technology is instrumental in identifying the origins of irregular heartbeats. With two advanced mapping systems on site, real-time 3-D imaging allows for fast diagnostics and thorough intervention.
